Firstly welcome and thanks for taking time to read this! You can either read these newsletters on our website www.abbeysports.co.uk (which you might be now!) or we can email you direct. If you would like to be put on our mailing list click here.

April already! It doesn’t seem 5 minutes since the first ‘New Year’s Resolution’ makers were charging the doors down in January! If that was you, how’s your training going? Have you achieved the results you were hoping for? If the answer is no then please book in at reception with an instructor to ensure that you are heading in the right direction. All gym programmes – and fitness tests – are complimentary for members.

As I write we’ve finished our sponsored slim. As a club we’ve pledged to give £1 to LOROS for every pound shed by our members. A total of over 110 lbs was lost - well done to all those who took part, the fun part is now keeping the weight off!!

You are probably aware that the club now opens at 8am at weekends – popular for those people not nursing hangovers! Other developments on the horizon are children’s swimming lessons and in the immediate future a crèche running on a Saturday morning (beginning April 19th). If you would like more regular updates on events then you may wish us to send you text messages. We only send them if we deem them worthwhile, so you won’t be bombarded I promise! On April 1st this year we celebrated 5 years of the club being known as Abbey Sports & Leisure. Believe me it doesn’t seem like 5 years since I first walked in here – although I do feel more than 5 years older!!

To celebrate, Saturday April 5th was party night! A brilliant night was had, pictures are on the website in the Events page so you can judge for yourselves!!

Did you know that every Tuesday and Thursday night in the bar we have Happy Hours between 7pm and 9pm? Why not come and watch live sport, enjoy some food and take advantage of all drinks being £1.50! On Tuesday nights The Kitchen Crew focus on traditional English food while Thursday’s Curry Nights are extremely popular. Thursdays also see ‘Everybody Dance’ on the dance floor in the lounge; a mixture of fun, simple to learn dancing with Sharon. Even those of you with two left feet are very welcome. As with all the events in the lounge, non members are very welcome!

This March saw the launch of BodyPump at the club. For those of you who aren’t aware, BodyPump is a class based workout which uses barbells and weights and no co-ordination! The class has gone down fantastically well and I can personally recommend it. If you haven’t done it before, let reception know and they’ll arrange for an instructor to give you some tuition before you start – trust me it’ll help! The studio timetable is constantly being tweaked so keep your eyes peeled to the timetable, either on the website or in the club. Without any bias we have the best team of instructors in the county (it must be true, Sharon told me) and so if you haven’t tried group exercise before, what are you waiting for?!?

Finally congratulations to the club’s 2 squash teams. The first team, with one game remaining as I write, are guaranteed a top three finish in Division 1 – no small feat. The second team won the Division 3 title, so well done to Chris, Jeff, Robin, Dennis, Roger, Pete, Mukesh and Dave for an excellent effort. Most of the team are pushing towards 60 and still teaching the young ones how it’s done! The squash courts at the club are free to use for members, you can book them and borrow rackets at reception.

If you have anything you’d like to talk about regarding any of the above or anything else, please feel free to email me directly at andy@abbeysports.co.uk. Thank you for your continued company,

Warm Regards

Andy
